NYC At All Stages

New York, New York- it’s a hell of a town.

A city for dreamers. A city of opportunity.  A city of energy.  A city of passion.  A city of multi-taskers.  A city that never sleeps.  We all love to hate it and hate to love it.

The best part of living in NYC is ironically also its worst part. Also, ironically- The best part about my job is also the worst part about my job (see asterisk below).

How do these two thoughts correlate?

Well, New York is a land of opportunity BUT it takes so much to live in that land.

Daily, I respond to calls and emails from people who are mostly unhappy, scared, discouraged, or frustrated.  In addition, I need to give them constructive criticism and a dose of reality.  Eek.  I love to help people.  And when I am done coaching, I am thankful if I can take a little of the weight off a shoulder or two.  90% of the time, the reality and the tough part of my chat all comes back to our hometown, New York City.  NYC is simply said both an equal opportunity employer and a never ending challenge for anyone at any age or stage of their career.

Over the course of the next week, I am going to post examples of how NY plays both sides for job seekers at any stage of their career.  Stay tuned for ones you can relate to…whether you are a new grad, looking for a professional pivot, returning to the work force, changing your path post baby, or coming out of retirement.  You name the stage, I am going to cover it.

Truth is, if I get 100 calls a week, 90 of them are from people who are unhappy (I promised you this ***).  Ten of them are from my mom 🙂  You are not alone.  I hope you can find like minded encouragement in the posts to come!
