How to Make the Most out of Your Commute

Many people ask me how I spend my commuting time- do I work or do I relax? I joke daily that my clients respond to me on their commute and I’m sure you can relate!

I think we can tailor this answer to “stage in life”… I work predominantly with young professionals and “young” parents… people in the working world for roughly 1-20 years.  Overall, my words of wisdom would apply to all age groups. Now that we have smart phones, we can do SO much more.  Eek- the double edged sword.

En route to the office:

Think about your day & what you want to accomplish.  Make a mental (or literal) to do list.  Remove things from your calendar that will interfere with you attaining your fresh set goals for the day, if possible.  Check in on those you need to include in your “plan of attack” to get a head start.

Homeward Bound:

Leave items at the back end of your day that are “easier” to respond to during this precious and extended time.  Double check to see how you did on your morning’s things to do list.  Start to craft tomorrow’s as a result.

For my working parents, I would advise that you use this time to “switch gears.”  A lot of people leave their day job, only to enter the real job… homework, dinner, lunches, prep, life, etc.  It takes a little to take off one hat and put on the other.  Close out your work day, make a plan for tomorrow, and dive in to job two (job one? LOL).

My Number One Rule of Thumb:

The person looking at you in the mirror knows how much you accomplished in a day.  Don’t let your reflection down- always do the best you can and allow yourself a moment to celebrate each days’ little victories rather than focusing on the failures…  Because, simply said, tomorrow is another day.  🙂
