In light of this week’s story and madness that happened today at our office, I felt the need to write this ASAP in case I can reach one person 🙂

Back in the day, I worked in fashion & a really bad day at the office translated to my bags or jackets didn’t get where they were supposed to or were not selling well. Oh, how my perspective has changed! HA! After putting people to work for 11 years, nothing REALLY surprises me anymore.  There are many days I wish I had a sweater that arrived with a hole in it instead of someone getting a fever and canceling the interview it took me three weeks to secure 🙂 Working with people is a uniquely rewarding and emotional career- and the good far outweighs the bad!!! However, working with people never ceases to amaze me- because people (our product) can do and say the craziest things…can’t they?
The staffing world has us dealing with both the client and the candidate.  We manage personality and detail from both sides. It’s quite the Oreo sandwich. We can only control so much and yet are blamed for almost everything! And the first thing I learned when I transitioned into this business is that people will always either pleasantly surprise you or unexpectedly disappoint you. So true. Every day at Choice has a series of adventures, our own private reality show!
Today I heard a story that actually surprised me! And it inspired me to share the following sentiment with all of you!!! Yes- The world has changed greatly since I started in this business, but really- has it???? Mind your manners when job searching! Dress the part, polish up your resume, be open, we know all of this stuff- but it is 2016 and YOU NEED TO BE SMART ABOUT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA people! DO NOT commit a Social Snafu!
Don’t post things that would be off putting to a hiring manager (please take down your festival photos, your underage drinking rampages, your ferocious weekend in Vegas, your outfit choice for your girls night out)…. Duh. We know you know this, right?
But, let’s take it one step further… If you are interviewing at a firm, don’t post anything about that firm on your social media. Don’t check in. Don’t tag. Don’t take a picture and share it.  I don’t care if you are enthusiastic and excited! Publicizing your elevator ride to the CEO’s office is not the world’s business. We live in a world now that your social media is an extension of who you are as a person. Polish it up, reel it in, and remember that you need to be aware that every single thing you do online can be watched and/or perceived in a non-flattering way. Note to self, if you have something you want to share but want to keep it “safe,” keep it to Snapchat- at least we know (FOR NOW) that it disappears in a few seconds.
