When we first met Alyssa in 2014, she was itching for a career in the fashion industry. A couple of quick years later, we reconnected at a University of Richmond networking event. Alyssa was approaching her one year mark from graduating college and we couldn’t have re-crossed paths at a more perfect time. Her year had been full of ups and downs as she tried to navigate down the career path she had been longing to pursue. After hearing Alyssa’s takeaways from her first year post-grad, we suggested that she go on an interview for a social media position… a role she wouldn’t have considered before due to her focus on fashion.
“I was a little bit lost in my career when I met Marissa again. We ended up talking for a large portion of the night and I could tell that she had great insight to offer as well as actually taking an interest in my career. Choice submitted me for various types of jobs; ranging from my traditional fashion background to exploring media jobs. Making an industry switch is super stressful and when I was going through the process, both Marissa and Cassie were willing to talk me through the opportunities (even on a holiday)!
It was then that I really realized and appreciated that Choice was willing to go above and beyond to make sure that I was confident in my decision to switch industries and try a new career path! I was SO happily surprised by my experience because they helped me explore all of my options and really consider my long term goals. I didn’t feel forced into any opportunity and I felt like my feedback and opinion was valued.
My biggest takeaway is not to be afraid to try something new. Sometimes the safe and easy choice isn’t always the right answer, sometimes it is better to take a risk and try something new. I also think that making sure that you fully consider all of your options is so essential. Once you commit to a job offer and a new path, you have to go for it and be confident in your choice. You can’t live life thinking about all of the ‘what ifs’.”
And go for it she did. Alyssa went on the interview with the social media agency and ended up getting the job offer!
“I am nervous, excited, scared, and uncertain about what my first day, week, and month at Likeable is going to be like. And honestly, I’m fine with that because regardless of what happens I know that I am going to learn something new and challenge myself and that in itself is a win. I am so happy and thankful to have the Choice team to support me on this new career journey.”
We’re thrilled that we were able to help Alyssa unlock all of her boundless potential in a new industry and so proud that she is embracing change!
